The Purpose of Medals in Martial Arts
While medals are not an incredibly longstanding component of most martial arts traditions – unlike belts, for instance – they are great ways to provide special recognition to practitioners and award them for outstanding accomplishments. These gold, silver, and bronze medals can also serve other important purposes:
- Recognizing Excellence: Awarding a practitioner for an accomplishment, such as a good performance at a tournament, is a great way to show them their work isn’t going unnoticed.
- Motivation: A medal not only signifies accomplishment but serves as a strong motivational tool. It’s something a practitioner can strive for and that is worth persevering for.
- Self-Esteem: Receiving a medal will help practitioners build their confidence by validating their hard work and letting them know they’re on the right path.
- Marking Milestones: While belts are a common way to mark rank in martial arts, our gold, silver, and bronze medals provide another tool to mark milestones outside the confines of rank.
Our medals for sale are made with extremely high-quality metal and fabric and are built to last for an incredibly long time. However, with some extra care and upkeep, they can retain their quality and appearance even longer:
- Cleaning: Our Karate medals should be cleaned with a lint-free cloth with a mild solution and then thoroughly dried to avoid moisture damage.
- Storage and Display: For the greatest longevity, putting up one’s medal in a protected display case, such as a glass frame, is a great option.
- Polishing: To retain that iconic shimmer, these gold, silver, and bronze medals should occasionally be gently polished with a non-abrasive metal polish.
All of our medals come in one size and should easily fit almost all practitioners. Each gold, silver, and bronze medal comes with a two-inch wide ribbon colored in red, white, and blue. It should be noted that most people opt to put these medals on display after receiving them rather than wearing them.
