The Purpose of the Heavier Gis
These heavyweight uniforms have long been the traditional martial arts uniform of Karate, but they can be used in several other martial arts styles as well. Certain schools of Aikido, Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and even Taekwondo can use heavyweight Karate Gis. This high-quality Gi offers the practitioner:
- Authenticity: All of our heavyweight uniforms are meticulously crafted to be in-line with the traditional requirements of a Karate Gi and have a polished look!
- Support: The heavier fabric on this Gi provides much better support than lightweight counterparts, which can help in performing and refining techniques.
- Warmth: These Gis are great for outdoor training, particularly in colder weather conditions where they provide more warmth.
- Grappling: Because of the denser material, these Gis are better suited for grappling or throwing techniques – or can be used in styles that emphasize grappling.
- Durability: The high-quality material and construction of our heavyweight Karate Gis means that you can rely on them for the long haul!
Though our heavyweight Gi uniforms are made to last, taking proper care of them will help maintain their durability and appearance even longer. It’s essential to:
- Wash Properly: Make sure to wash your 12 oz Karate Gi in cold water to preserve the fabric. Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach.
- Drying: When it comes to drying your Gi, it’s best to air dry it after washing. If you do use a conventional dryer, avoid high heat to minimize fabric wear.
- Maintenance: Ironing your heavyweight Karate Gi and hanging it up, rather than folding it, can help maintain its crisp appearance.
Our 12 oz Karate Gis currently comes in 8 different sizes. However, with the Gi’s flexible waistband and iconic open jacket style, it can fit a greater range of people of all different sizes and shapes than one might initially think!
